About Richard

After a successful scientific career, in a discipline far removed from climate change, I felt a call to do something different in 2017 and became Lay Pastor at Bramhall Methodist Church. In 2021 I led a Climate Year during which the church focussed on how it should engage with the climate emergency in the lead up to the CoP 26 meeting in Glasgow.

This web-site is a place for me to explore how my faith relates to the climate and wider ecological emergencies. Do browse all the material but if you want a more succinct statement of how I believe the church should respond you could start be reading this document.

At the end of that year I felt I wanted continue my interests in this area so resigned from my post . Since then I’ve been involved in a number of projects (listed below) on a freelance or volunteer basis. I am now balancing that work with a Masters Degree in Sustainability and Behaviour Change at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth in mid-Wales.

Recent projects:

Biblical Worship in a Climate Emergency

A series of three continuing development sessions commissioned by the Local Preachers Department of the Methodist Church in Britain (available at this link). I also ran a training afternoon for the Manchester and Stockport District based on the material.

Action for Hope Policy and Action Plan.

Paid consultancy for Manchester and Stockport Methodist District to develop these including scheme to inaugurate a District Climate Emergency Fund to support churches in moving towards carbon neutral.

Solar for Greater Manchester Faiths.

Paid consultancy of Catholic Diocese of Salford to implement an interfaith initiative to support installation of solar panels on faith buildings using a community owner ship model funded by a grant from Electricity North West.
